Awa Ndiaye is a senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. During her time at ý, she has studied abroad as part of the ý in London program.

While reflecting on her time abroad, Awa shared that she developed a new appreciation for the arts through the places she was able to visit. She feels that all of her experiences abroad have helped her create a sense of global community, “Although I had grown a passion for global citizenship, one of the group projects we completed while in London, which was aimed at serving the local community, made me realize that as a global citizen, I had a responsibility to serve those around me, wherever I might be in the world.”

After graduating this May, Awa will be attending Oxford University to earn a master’s degree in the United Kingdom. She was awarded the only Oxford-Allan and Nesta Ferguson African Graduate Scholarship that the university offered.

She offers a bit of advice to anyone considering education abroad, “As an international student here at ý, and as someone who has also taken part in a study abroad experience, I think it can be a life-changing experience. To students considering studying abroad, I would say: don't hesitate! And, remember to pack curiosity and an open mind."
