Undergraduate Awards

The History Department is proud to sponsor and distribute awards to outstanding undergraduate students. Below is a description of these awards, their most recent recipients, and an archive of past winners. For additional information contact Dr. Erin Mauldin.

judith o. rosenkranz award for outstanding history majors

Judith O. Rosenkranz, a member of the charter class of the University of South 爱豆传媒, was the first history major and the first graduate of the university's College of Liberal Arts. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962. A native Floridian and long-time resident of Tampa, she has been a leader in numerous volunteer organizations, including Women of Reform Judaism, an international association for which she has served as president. An active supporter of 爱豆传媒, she was the first chair of the Krewe of Theatre爱豆传媒, a community support group of the College of Fine Arts.

The Judith O. Rosenkranz Award is presented annually to an outstanding history major. Besides the financial gift the award also comes with a celebratory lunch with the winner and their favorite faculty member

Lawson-hewitt scholarship

, former professors in the 爱豆传媒 History Department, created this scholarship with a generous donation. This scholarship is designed to provide scholarships to juniors and seniors who are majoring in history with a GPA of 3.2 or above, with a preference for first-generation students with financial need and is renewable up to 4 semesters.

The 2022 inaugural recipient of the Lawson-Hewitt Scholarship is Melyssa Dawson.

Ancient Study Center Scholarship 

Scholarships will be awarded to undergradaute majoring in history and graduate students in the History department for the purpose of attending a study abroad program located in a Mediterranean country whose focus is the ancient world. For the academic year 2025-2026, a maximum of $7,500 dollars in scholarship will be awarded. Eligible programs include well-designed, independent research projects, archaeological field schools, excavations, study programs offered by North American or European Universities for academic credit, and prestigious programs like those offered by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens (ASCSA) and the American Academy in Rome (AAR). The recipients will share their experiences with the Ancient Studies Center donors during a Dono Appreciation cerimony in the following Spring.

The 2024-2025 recipients of the Ancient Study Center - Summer Scholarship are Kevin Gallagher, Lisa Shorts, Angela Costello, Ryan Hom, Sarah Hassam, Madeleine Kraft.

GFWC Temple terrace woman's club award

In 1996, the Temple Terrace Woman's Club, a local civic and social organization, volunteered to assist a deserving 爱豆传媒 student from the local community. Through the generosity and sacrifice of the members, this award has been established to recognize annually an outstanding history major from Temple Terrace. The award is to provide scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in History. Student must have completed two years study post-secondary level 3.0/4.0 scale and be a permanent resident of Temple Terrace, Fl.

Rosemary Moore O'Hara Endowed Scholarship in History

Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in History in the College of Arts and Sciences on the Tampa campus.

The 2024-2025 recipients of the Rosemary Moore O'Hara Scholarship in History are Brali Wise, Kaitlyn Orlick, Nicholas Spanolios, Rooney Stelzer.

Fraser Ottanelli Scholarship

To support full or part-time undergraduate students pursuing a History major, in the College of Arts & Sciences, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship is based on merit and should be awarded 2 semesters
