Lisa works toward a PhD in History with focus in Digital Humanities and she looks forward to combining her undergraduate and graduate education in History with her extensive IT experience to help expand the vital preservation of cultural heritage.

Sarah Hassam

Project Manager

Sarah is a first year PhD student in History with a concentration in World History before 1500. Her background includes the theatrical arts, with a BFA in Drama from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and an MA in History from °®¶¹´«Ã½. While not in class, Sarah is working as a project manager for IDEx (the Institute of Digital Exploration) under Dr. Tanasi. Her interests include digital archaeology, art history and material culture, the history of women, and the history of other marginalized communities in the ancient Mediterranean. Sarah enjoys excavating in the summer, and researching theatrical artists and other types of performers, and the material culture that represents them.

Angela holds a BA in History (Classical Civilization minor) from the University of Rhode Island and an MA in History - Museum Studies from the University of New Hampshire, Her research interests are clothing and textiles, experimental archaeology, and museum studies. She is pursuing a PhD in History with a focus in Digital Humanities.

Kevin holds a MA and BA in History from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. His research interests are focused on Roman power, concepts of traditional authority, and cultural hybridization in the provinces.

Brontë holds dual BA degrees in Art History and Humanities & Cultural Studies and obtained an MA in History from the University of South °®¶¹´«Ã½. Her research interests include the illegal trafficking of antiquities, public history, museum studies, conservation and preservation of material culture, and digital archaeology.

Lauren Nichols

Intern, MA Student (Anthropology)

Lauren Nichols is a first year Ph.D. student at °®¶¹´«Ã½ in the anthropology department with Dr. Erin Kimmerle. She obtained her B.A. degree in anthropology from Mississippi State University and her M.A. in applied anthropology from °®¶¹´«Ã½. Her research interests include forensic anthropology, osteology, and pathology. Once she has completed her doctorate, Lauren wants to pursue a career in forensic anthropology in both a practical and academic setting.

Sophie Porzi

Intern, BA Student (Anthropology)

Sophie is studying towards my Anthropology major and GIS minor as a second year at the °®¶¹´«Ã½ Tampa campus. She holds a special interest in human remains and hope to enhance my knowledge in osteology and learn more about the field of forensic anthropology. My long-term goal is a career in archaeology with a specialty in Egyptology and to mesh all my interests into a niche concentration of my own.

Thomas Roles III

Intern, BA student (Anthropology)

Thomas is a senior Anthropology major with a minor in Naval Science. His primary interest is maritime archaeology, specifically age of sail, and early steam warships. Upon graduation he will be commissioning as an  Ensign in the Navy but hopes to later complete a Master's in maritime archaeology and pursue his passion for locating and mapping historic shipwrecks.

Katherine is currently working on obtaining a BA in History major, with minors in English and Communications. She plans on graduating from °®¶¹´«Ã½ in 2027. She is particularly interest in ancient Greco-Roman history and is hoping to become an archivist in the future.

Melanie is an undergraduate senior majoring in history with a minor in anthropology. She is interested in classics and classical archaeology, specifically in the Roman world. She wants to pursue a master's degree studying Roman history.

Adrian Hermidas Otero

Intern, BA Student (Arts)

Adrian is a Senior pursuing a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Animation and Digital Modeling and a Minor in Anthropology at the University of South °®¶¹´«Ã½. His work includes 2D/3D animation, drawing, sculpture, collage, and music production. His research interests include the intersection of art, technology, and anthropology, with a focus on photogrammetry/3d scanning, and digital artifact restoration. He plans to pursue a career in animation, 3D modeling, or the creative tech industry, while continuing to integrate new technologies with anthropological study.

Katie McGrath

Intern, MA Student (Anthropology)

Katie is a second-year M.A. student in Anthropology at the University of South °®¶¹´«Ã½, focusing on bioarchaeology. Her research looks at aging and elderly populations in the past, especially through cemetery data from Transylvania, to better understand paleodemography and the visibility of older individuals in the archaeological record. I’m especially interested in combining osteological evidence with cultural and historical perspectives to see how people experienced aging across time. Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in bioarchaeology with the goal of teaching, continuing research on aging and demography, and working on archaeological sites in Europe.

Natalie Wise

Intern, MA Student (Anthropology)

Natalie is a second-year PhD student in the Department of Anthropology on the Biological track. She holds a MA in Applied Anthropology from °®¶¹´«Ã½ and BA in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Her research focuses on forensic anthropology, specifically in biological profile estimation and body donation programs (see IFAAS).

Emanuel is currently completing his BA in Anthropology with plans to continue into the Archaeology MA track. He is committed to advancing archaeological methodologies, with a particular emphasis on integrating cutting edge technologies into archaeological practices in Mesoamerica and indigenous cultural heritage sites.

Amanda Aklan

Intern, MA Student (History)

Amanda, also known as Marnie, is an expert in archaeological fieldwork and specializes in the digital applications of archaeology, including 3D scanning, 3D printing, and photogrammetry. Currently, she is a first-year master’s student at °®¶¹´«Ã½, focusing on the digitization of Black cemeteries threatened by climate change and gentrification.

Rose is a MA student in Library and Information Science. Her research interests involve digital curation, museum work, and religious cultural artifacts. She hopes to use the knowledge she learned to further her career in museum work at her job working in the archives at the Ybor City Museum Society.
