The School of Architecture and Community Design (SACD) in ý’s College of Design, Art & Performance is seeking an innovator and collaborator in bridging and extending the discipline and practices of architecture.

Excellent designer-practitioners with expertise in architectural and urban histories, site planning and development, design computing, and/or building materials and systems are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate, in line with the performance expectations of an R1 AAU institution, will work toward the rank of professor, which 1entails maintaining an active record of research and/or reflective practice of high impact at the national or international level.

The tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Architecture is a nine-month, full-time position which contributes to the research, teaching, and service missions of the University of South ý. The anticipated start date is August 2025.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish, document, and disseminate an original, coherent, and meaningful program of research and/or reflective practice.
  • Impart knowledge and skills and stimulate students’ critical thinking and creative abilities through highly effective graduate and undergraduate teaching in studios, lectures, seminars, and directed studies (e.g. thesis).

Job Description

The Markborough Visiting Assistant Professorship of Teaching at the School of Architecture and Community Design (SACD) within ý’s College of Design, Art & Performance provides an exceptional opportunity for an early to midcareer designer-practitioner or scholar to conduct independent design research associated with their teaching within our graduate Architecture and/or Urban and Community Design programs. The successful candidate will be selected based on their excellent teaching capabilities, compelling research interests, and their collaborative approach to exploring the roles of architecture and urban design in addressing societal challenges through the crafting of places, development of systems, and/or construction of contexts.

This is a non-tenure track, nine-month, full-time position with an initial one-year appointment renewable up to a total of three years. The recipient will provide a culminating public exhibition and lecture at the end of the appointment and will have access to internal funding to support dissemination of completed work on a national or international scale during their appointment. During their visit, the recipient will teach Up to six credits of required courses and one course related to their research each semester. Courses may be design studios, lectures, and/or seminars. The anticipated start date is August 2025.

  • The teaching load is two courses per semester, typically at the undergraduate level, with the possibility of teaching graduate courses as needed.

This is a full-time, 9-month, continuing position, as Assistant Instructor. In addition, there will be opportunities for summer employment.

Duties will include teaching two courses per semester and managing an audio recording studio that will serve as a teaching facility, and as a working studio to help students develop practical, hands-on professional experiences and gain knowledge. The successful candidate will offer courses that focus on the needs of music majors and students in a new Design program within the College of Design, Art and Performance. Additional offerings will also be available to the general student population. The successful candidate will be expected to serve on committees, and perform other appropriate university and professional service.

The School of Theater and Dance is excited to recruit a faculty member specializing in Commercial/hip hop dance forms to add to their current curricular offerings. We seek a forward-thinking individual who will help us to reimagine dance education and its impact on contemporary commercial culture. Commercial/hip hop dance forms should be the focus of their creative professional work or research agenda. The successful candidate, in line with the performance expectations of an R1 AAU institution, will work toward the rank of professor, which entails maintaining an active record of high-impact creative research at the national or international level. The School is currently re-examining its curriculum and is primed for new faculty with a fresh perspective.

Position: Assistant Professor, Dance (Commercial). This position is a 9-month tenure earning faculty position with a start date of August 2025.

Duties: Faculty in the School of Theater and Dance are required to maintain an active research agenda and annually report on progress toward promotion and tenure. This could include commissions, fully produced work from major companies, commercial entrepreneurial dance activity or commissions. performing in major venues of both live and digital dissemination, and/or peer reviewed scholarly text. Teaching responsibilities will include two (2) assignments per semester. These may be comprised of a combination of courses and mainstage production assignments. Typical service responsibilities include mentoring students, work on School, College, and/or University committees, professional memberships, and curricular development.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal Degree in Dance or related field
  • Ability to teach dance technique courses in Commercial and at least one other style
  • Demonstrated ability to choreograph dance works for main stage productions.
  • Research and/or creative activity involving choreography, movement practice/theory, historical/cultural perspectives, or related fields at the national and international level.

Preferred Qualifications:        

  • Demonstrated professional experience as a choreographer working in Commercial and Hip hop styles
  • University teaching experience in areas such as dance technique (Commercial, Hip hop, Street Jazz, Funk, House, Contemporary Jazz, Musical Theatre), choreography, or another dance-related curriculum
  • National and/or international professional credits in commercial dance, hip hop or other performance genres

The successful candidate will direct musical performances and teach all levels in the performance curriculum (acting and directing). They will serve as the area head of Musical Theatre, enhancing the existing curriculum and helping recruit students for the major. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MFA or equivalent professional experience. 
  • Significant professional Musical Theatre performance or directing experience.  
  • Experience teaching performance at the university level or comparable teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience teaching musical theatre performance classes and directing undergraduate productions.
  • Program administration and recruitment experience
