Annual Security and Fire Safety Report
Schools must publish an annual report disclosing campus security policies and three years worth of selected crime statistics. Schools must make timely warnings to the campus community about crimes that pose an ongoing threat to students and employees. Each institution with a police or security department must have a public crime log. The U.S. Department of Education centrally collects and disseminates the crime statistics. Campus sexual assault victims are assured of certain basic rights. Schools that fail to comply can be fined by the DOE.
In September 2025, the 2022 and 2023 Annual Security & Fire Safety Reports were revised to reflect changes to the following:
- Titles 鈥 The title of the reports were changed from 鈥淎nnual Security Report鈥 to 鈥淎nnual Security & Fire Safety Report.鈥 This change reflects that these reports contain both the Annual Security Report and the Annual Fire Safety Report in one document, in compliance with Clery Act Regulations.
- Motor Vehicle Theft Statistics 鈥 The statistics for Motor Vehicle Thefts have been updated to reflect guidance received during a recent Clery Act training that, for Clery Act purposes, electric scooters and electric bicycles are considered personal motor vehicles. The Motor Vehicle Theft statistics have been updated to include the thefts of electric scooters and electric bicycles, which have caused this number to increase from what was previously reported for calendar years 2022 and 2023.
