The role involves delivering engaging and comprehensive early childhood education courses to a diverse cohort of adult learners.

  • Part-time contract position
  • $1,350 to $2,250 per course, based on assignment.
    Courses typically involve 30 to 50 hours of instructional time.

Instructor Duties

We are seeking qualified applicants who possess current subject matter expertise and/or teaching knowledge.

Course Preparation and Administration

  • Prepare new or update the existing course materials and learning assessments such as quizzes, exams, and reflections in Canvas.
  • Design interactive and motivational classroom activities to fully engage participants and reinforce student learning. Stay current with the subject, discipline, and field of practice.
  • Communicate teaching objectives and specific learning outcomes to students. Clearly outline and explain the grading policies for the course.
  • Complete required administrative tasks in a timely manner including:
    • updating and submitting syllabi using our Simple Syllabus portal;
    • signing quarter contracts;
    • communicating required texts and materials; and
    • communicating classroom technology and support needs.
  • Make appropriate adjustments to continually improve the syllabus, curriculum, and course materials, which may be based on programmatic or student feedback.

Student Engagement and Support

  • Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely manner (within 48 hours).
  • Employ culturally competent and inclusive teaching methodologies in the classroom including teaching non-native speakers and students with academic letters of accommodations for learning disabilities.
  • Review students¡¯ progress through the course and assign timely grading via the Canvas Gradebook.
  • Submit final student grades in a timely manner no later than two weeks after the course end date.

Communication and Professional Development

  • Communicate with the program manager and program representatives in a timely manner.
  • Once a °®¶¹´«Ã½ account is assigned, it is mandatory to use the °®¶¹´«Ã½ email for all communications with staff and students.
  • Monitor °®¶¹´«Ã½ email address for time-sensitive emails sent by the Academic Services and Student Services teams.
  • Complete mandatory training programs by deadlines established by UC Santa Cruz.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience at a level relevant to the course being taught.
  • Fluent in Spanish with excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices in Early Childhood Education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
  • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit
  • Experience working with diverse populations and adult learners.
  • Experience with online teaching platforms and technology-enhanced instruction.
  • Effective organizational skills with attention to detail.

Position Availability

°®¶¹´«Ã½ Silicon Valley Extension Professional Education instructors are hired on a quarterly By Agreement contract basis. Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit¡¯s instructional need and the availability of funding.
